Youth Mountain Bike Program


Our Youth Mountain Bike Program introduces and develops the core skills athletes need to feel confident and safe on the trails, while keeping the focus on fun and group riding. Each session begins with 20–30 minutes of skills instruction followed by a group ride to put those skills into practice. The season wraps up with a family group ride and BBQ at Larose Forest.


Program Details

· When & Where:

o Monday evenings at 5:30 pm

o Locations: Bells Corners or Carlington Bike Park (alternate locations may be used depending on conditions)

o Sessions are 90+ minutes, adjusted for weather and trail conditions

o All sessions end with a group ride


· Rider Groups:

o Rippers – Newer or less confident riders, focusing on skill development at a comfortable pace.

o Senders – More experienced riders who have the fitness and fundamental skills to ride at a slightly higher pace, while keeping safety first.


Equipment Requirements

· A properly fitted mountain bike in good working condition (front and back brakes, mountain bike tires required).

· A properly fitted helmet and closed-toe shoes (full-finger gloves recommended).

· Water bottle or hydration pack (backpack if needed).

· A spare tube for their bike (to support independence and self-sufficiency).

· Bug spray(optional, especially later in spring/summer).

· Expect some mud—dress appropriately!


As part of the program, riders can participate in weekly coached swim sessions. Athletes must be able to swim 25m non stop in order to participate.

Swimming is a great way to improve overall athleticism build endurance, body control, and strength that support all sports.

· Location: Richcraft Rec Centre (until June 30)

                   Beaverbrook Out Door Pool July / August

· Time: Wednesdays, 6:00–7:00 pm



Fall 2026 Schedule

· Start Date: Monday April 20th 2026

· End Date:  June 8th  (family ride & BBQ at Larose Forest)

· Ride Sessions: Mondays, 5:30–7:15 pm

· Swim Sessions: Wednesdays, 6:00–7:00 pm (optional)


Program Options

Athletes interested in additional training after mountain bike season ends can en-roll in our Part-Time Program which runs year round and includes a variety of swim, bike, run and strength training sessions.
