When it comes to riding a bike just about anyone can ride one in a straight line. But many riders lack the confidence and skill to control their bike when presented with diverse conditions. Our mountain bike program helps young riders build confidence and the skills they need to take their biking to the next level.
Whether your young rider likes to race their friends on their bikes or wants to ride with mom and dad and be confident on the trails we can help with that.
Our program is designed to introduce and improve the core skills that riders need to be comfortable on the trails while also letting the riders take part in group rides that are fun and positive. Each of our sessions starts with 20 to 30 min of instruction followed by a ride to practice our skills. The Program finishes with a group ride at Larose Forest with a BBQ.
For our fall session we will hold practice on Monday evenings starting at 5:30 typically in Bells Corners or at the Carlington Bike Park. Session will be 90 plus min long depending on daylight.
Fall program will run From September 9th to Nov 3rd with Nov 4th reserved as a weather make-up day.
Equipment:
- Riders should have a bike that is in working order and fits them. Expectations is that they have both front and back brakes and actual mountain bike tires (not a hybrid)
- Each rider should have a properly fitted helmet and close-toed shoes. I do recommend full fingered gloves but they are not mandatory. There will be mud at some point so keep that in mind when picking which shoes your rider is going to wear :)
- Each rider should have a water bottle or hydration pack. If they do not have a way to carry the water bottle on their bike then they should have a small backpack to be self-sufficient.
- Mosquitoes still may be out in September, it will be up to the riders to have their own bug spray.
Bonus:
As part of the program riders will have optional access to a swim once a week with an instructor to help build endurance and swimming skills. This will be alongside our triathlon program.
Monday September 9th to Monday October 21st 2024
Program includes runs skill development session every Monday night with an optional coached SWIM session on Wednesday nights 6pm - 7pm at Richcraft Pool
Cost is $89.00 + hst
